this song is horrible. just, devastatingly bad. it mostly sounds like irritating talk. and the video is mostly writhing around all over the carpets, walls, probably the ceilings if that would've been possible. but the clothing is a totally different story. i don't necessarily mean it's mind blowing, but it's pretty damn good for a little pop video. feathers, fancy undergarments, bustiers (the obligatory pop singer bodysuit), and a well-picked red lip. it's like a mini editorial, and i kinda like it. though i can't get past the fact that leighton is in the limo wearing a little black cutout number, and they put robin thicke in a primary color letterman jacket? i guess it could happen.

whenever i'm in sephora and ulta, i get this strange feeling of "i HAVE to buy something." it's like a sickness almost, i don't want it, it just hits me and it must be cured. so the other day in ulta i spotted the sula paint and peel nail polish i had read about here and there and decided to give the olive green color a go. and the results?

well. first of all, it required more than three coats. after the third coat i stopped counting, but each coat came out incredibly sheer. then, the color dried completely different from it's wet form. i'm not sure if it was just my color, but it happened, and rather than olive green, it was this weird black brown combo. and THEN, after it dried, it had this awful rubbery feeling that i felt every time my nails brushed against anything else. and the next morning in the shower? it had already started the peeling process. which was not cute. so eventually i just peeled it all off (which was fun, and it all came off in big chunks) but it took off some of my nail layers (not an obscenely large layer, just little bits of the surface) and it left a not so pleasant result. to sum it all up, i don't really recommend it. no matter how cute the packaging is. and the packaging is pretty stinkin cute.

i don't think i've ever paid much attention to the loewe runway. not for any particular reason, but i guess till now it hasn't made much impression on me. but this season, i have clicked through the collection quite a few times, not entirely for the clothing, but moreso for the color story. the faded out khakis with punches of saturated oranges and pinks, unlike some of the other collections i've seen, it really felt like a spring summer runway. i like neutrals paired with deep colors, i feel like it's always a nice, fresh touch. and not to be outdone by the bright colors, the maroons, olives and caramel browns felt really rich and sumptuous. i'll be keeping a closer eye on loewe from here on out.

when the book 'influence' initially came out, however long ago that was, i wasn't really all that interested. to be honest, i was skeptical, and pretty doubtful about it consisting any type of credible content. now, i had no real grounds for that judgement, but it was made and i was silly and now i am eating my words.

a few weeks back while prowling around the urbanoutfitters sale section, i spotted one lone copy of 'influence' looking a little roughed up, ripped, and stamped with a big orange $9.99 sticker. i gasped. because even though my skepticism loomed, i had, post-judgement, heard some pretty good things about the book. i scanned the book quickly, and in those brief moments of spotting interviews with dvf, the kaiser & john galliano, i confidently decided that this book was worth the discounted price. so i bought it, and even the checkout clerk gave me that "of course you would" look, but i decided to stick with my guns and not whimper away shamefully.

some days later after feverishly reading cover to cover, i can say that i judged completely wrong and this book is legit. don't be fooled by the cover (which may have swayed me in the first place), the interviews were well-chosen and interesting, but smart and completely relatable. they touch base with these influential people in the spectrums of art and fashion, but the interviews make the people feel more real rather than an icon on a pedestal. some of the quotes are, for lack of a better word or something less corny, inspirational. and i can honestly say, even if you can't find one tucked in the urbanoutfitters sale shelves, it's still worth the full price.

in life, i believe there are several different types of love. and i'm not talking the difference between familial love and friendship love, etc. etc. i'm talking different types of couple relationship loves. there are those that love out of adoration, or those that endure a dim love which suffices couples to continue on for years and years. there's a type of friendly relationship love that may never peak into lover status, or peaks in result of this. there's comfortable love, where you love because you'd be lost without another. there's those that love eachother explosively, if only for a minute, and although there are endless types, my tip top favorite, is an aching, passionate, so-much-it-hurts kind of love.

now, when i watch romance movies, there's obviously different types of love that's portrayed, typically a lot of longing, some sad love, a lot of unrequited love (another favorite), but never have i watched a movie that displayed a real deep, aching love that i could relate to. until "love me if you dare." yes, the title is deceivingly, um, predictable? because this movie is A #1 in my book. it's fun and childish and serious and loving and it feels good to watch and it's painful and yes, you better believe i cried. to set up a quick premise without giving away the movie, it begins with childhood friends who endlessly play a game of dare, that escalates into adulthood. it begins naive but becomes real when real emotions are involved and essentially, it encompasses that torrent, passionate love without being completely predictable. another french romance at the top of my list! unlike the movie, i fear i'm becoming absolutely predictable.

the "official" english trailer seems a bit off considering that strange, overly gruff old-man voice narrating throughout, but if that doesn't scare you off, look it up!

when it comes to movies, i'm a sap. to speak plainly, sleepless in seattle is one of my favorites (gag if you will, but you can't deny the charm of a young tom hanks and meg ryan). after realizing the fact that romance movies are my special cup of tea, i typically tend to stick with this genre when i get a little time to sit alone and indulge in this intesne girlishness, and having recently sat down to watch "a very long engagement." sitting in my bed, laptop glowing on my face, i can proudly say that i very much liked this movie. not love, but very much liked. it was sad to the point of heartbreaking, and completely relatable, and not in that "i've been through this same scenario" type of way, but in a way that everyone felt human and real and i could sense the remorse. the story was winding and took you up and down, and yes. i definitely cried. i may be giving a vague movie review, but! if you like romantical french things, then i definitely support and recommend this. oui oui.

it's been (and will continue to be) an expensive couple of weeks, what with moving into a new place and all the gas and electric setups you don't want to, but have to pay for. and although i have attempted to cut back expenses on the more frivolous side of the scale, my imagination never stops spending! so to ease back into my blog after my internet hiatus, a week review of things i want, but simply cannot afford (yet!). payday will be more glorious than ever before.

1.impressively large and full of both textual and photographic content, this book takes a long hard stare at me everytime i pass it. and at a whopping $75.00 on the barnes and nobles bookshelf, i quickly run past it because my wallet is shoving me towards the more (sometimes) affordable magazine rack. but i can't fight it any longer! my fascination with stylists and their immense importance in creating a distinct image makes me feel more justified in my purchase, and, well, that's all i need really. sold! (after my next paycheck that is).

when i look at the dior haute couture show, i feel like i'm looking at clothes from a totally different time period (in a good way). i've always admired galliano for the way he seems to take his themes and makes it all feel very bold and extreme. he doesn't seem to subtly hint at eras or people that inspire his clothing, he puts you right in the middle of it, but it never seems old or dull. i really liked this show because of its (excuse the overused, annoying term) juxtaposition of conservatism and overt sexuality. long, high waisted skirts paired with little satin bras, long sleeved dotted coats that are completely see-through, heavy coats thrown over little lace slips. i'm in love. serious, aching, love.

after a week of doing obscene amounts of nothing, nothing, and some more nothing, i've decided that i need to impose a little structure in my life. granted, i did take it upon myself to do nothing in preparation for my new full-time that will takeover in a few days, but i've become a little sick with myself and all this nothingness. so! i have decided to utilize my blog to keep me on track, and to continue learning things so that my brain doesnt melt slowly out of my ears from lack of usage. it's gonna take a bit of time for me to see what works out well, but i have decided that after i move into my new place, i will put into place a sunday morning bake-time. over years of little kitchens, i have managed to lose my cooking skills, so sundays i will hone in on them and feed my possibly tasty or toxic goodies to my unaware coworkers later that day. i'm also gonna pick out a day for sewing experiments, probably a nice quiet monday night, but i still need to work out the kinks.

ah, i love organization so much its disgusting. in this case i suppose it's life organization. i'm sick in the head.

*this is kinda like me on my days of nothing. but the big faux gem would be my laptop. and i opt for mumu dresses. much less whimsical.

aside from the fact that i was totally in love with stella mccartney's resort collection, for some reason i really really liked the way this shirt was tied in the picture. yea, a front knot is no big fashion-forward deal, but i enjoy a shirt tie-up or two. so with internet photo at hand, i threw on a couple shirts and tried the front knot with high hopes, and i honestly cannot get over the fact that on me, it kinda just looks like an outtie belly button. maybe i'll have better luck with sequin pants.

There's just something about the Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 runway that is incredibly aesthetically pleasing to me. And it's not just the clothes, it's the whole package. The little powder puff on the top the models' heads, that big streak of eyeliner, the fact that most of the clothes are all crinkled up and folded in some way or another. If I could embody a certain fall collection at the moment, this would be it (despite the fact that we're on the cusp of summertime).

Although I am and always will be a Food Network addict, my ambition for testing out recipes could simply not be carried out in the teeny-tiny kitchens I've been forced to deal with ever since I made the move to Richmond. And now that I'm moving out and up, I can hopefully compensate for my cook-less years in a kitchen that's a bit larger. But while I anxiously wait for the space to be able to spread out 10 bowls at once, the new Julie & Julia trailer has me even more excited to start baking. Maybe I'll find myself in some Julia Child recipe of chocolate mousse?

hot and sweaty

Usually, I'm one of those people that is 'winter-only.' I only enjoy jackets and coats and scarves and sweaters and big gloves until I'm practically covered up from head to toe. But the closer summer comes the more I find myself aching to lazily sit around sweating in a pool chair in all this sheer business that's been coming out everywhere. Not in a 'scantily-clad' sort of way, but in way that says 'this is the only garment reasonable enough to wear in such ridiculously hot weather.' I've got my eyes peeled for things that are both sheer and modest. if that's possible.

There's something I find incredibly charming about 'fashion' photos that incorporate morning routines. I think I just enjoy the concept of getting all dolled up and primped for the day being as routine as making coffee or frying up some eggs.

i love live tyler any day of the year. but i really love 90's liv tyler. empire records pill-popping virgin? amazing. which thus brings me to my general love for the 90's. faded florals with massive black boots, belly baring shirts, big denim button ups and the theory that you can wear plaid with anything. it may have had it's bad moments (what time period doesn't have it's painfully awful clothing trends?) but it was still so so good. and even though total replication of the era would seem dated, i often do wake up with the urge to channel a little bit 90's in my outfit. i think plaid still goes with everything.

Interview has been featuring the young or barely legal on their covers lately (i.e. Zac Efron, Mary-Kate, Lindsey Lohan), and even though Emma Watson further extends this cover-marathon of pyt's, for some reason I think she's way more legit. And by legit, I mean that Harry Potter is better than faux-reality Disney shows. Child-actors aside, here's a neat little slide show via Interview of the editorial.

you know those songs, where you start out loving them and they get you really pumped, and you listen to it a ton on all your playlists, and then you start hearing it in urbanoutfitters, and that's alright, and then you hear it on commercials, and that's kinda weird, and then you hear it on a ringback tone, and by that point you totally hate it. and then a car packed full of sorority girls passes you whilst blasting the song and that puts the final nail in the coffin. this is probably gonna be one of those songs. but i like to live in the moment. so i'm in phase one: starting out loving it.

i'm not into tanning at all. i don't understand the phenomenon, and the thought of sitting inside what looks to me like a giant panini machine while your skin crinkles and bakes, kinda creeps me out. but i must admit, this picture makes me feel like i could use some rays. lately i've been stuck indoors while the spring weather passes me by, and i'm feeling a little translucent. and while i don't support tanning, i do support healthy glows. which i lack. i need to up my quota for bike-rides per week.

the lion, the witch and the wardrobe

its been a while since i've done a post about another blog, but to be honest, a lot of it has felt really repetitive. and although streetstyle blogs are heaping up by the thousands, show me your wardrobe is something of a different nature. it doesnt offer just a single glimpse into a persons personal style, but several photos. more of a montage of their style, which i think can speak volumes more than a single image. its interesting to note the consistency they have in their wardrobes, the fact that a particular person chooses the same sillhouette in every outfit, and they stick to a single color scheme. but i think even more fascinating are the people who have items in their wardrobes that totally differ. completely random pieces for dressing up, and doing a 180 from one day to the next.

i may also be drawn to the blog because pretty much every person featured has a job that i want. envy envy envy.

i have a love/hate relationship with the lookbook site. it's kind of the same feeling i have with lady gaga. i don't really like it much, but i can't seem to stop myself because i'm strangely fascinated. but the thing i hate today is not lookbook itself, but rather the captions for all the pictures that are posted. a few examples:

"i have fought the big knives and will continue to fight them"
"scream your lungs out"
"i'm strong enough to get through this <3"
"i never grew up.. i just learned how to act in public"
& lastly "uicorns. red lips. plate"

why these captions? and why is the use of teen-angsty titles so consistent on every page? conspiracy? some new band that i'm unaware of that's leaking out these badly worded, but apparently inspirational lyrics?

maybe they're all lady gaga lyrics and my guilty pleasures are coming full circle.
